Meet Christina Cortez

Christina Cortez was born in South Texas. Being introduced to Catholicism at an early age by her mother, Irma, she fell in love with the Church as a young adult. She was ecstatic when she was presented the opportunity to work for the Catholic Diocese of Brownsville in 2013. Although her professional background was in office administration, she quickly realized that she had a vocation to serve the clergy and the faithful of the Rio Grande Valley.

In her position at the Development Office, she was fortunate to learn the logistics of grant writing, stewardship, and Diocesan accounting. These skills assisted her as she transitioned to St. Joseph Catholic Church in Edinburg, Texas.

Christina has been teaching and preaching her faith for over 20 years as a Confirmation Catechist, and is an advocate of St. John Paul II’s Theology of the Body. She likes to inflame others with the beauty of the Church and the love of Jesus Christ.

Christina is currently working on her bachelor’s degree in Theology at Franciscan University in Steubenville, where she hopes to graduate soon and pursue her Masters. She has a blog called Christina does Catholicism, where she posts spiritual reflections, poems, and short stories.

Christina’s favorite thing is being an aunt to her eleven nieces and nephews and two great nieces. She has a devotion to Our Virgen Mother, St. Therese of Lisieux, St. Padre Pio, and St. John Paul the Great.

In her free time, she enjoys hiking, riding, biking, going to the beach, and of course binge-watching Netflix with her cat, Pio.
